One year ago, the (honorary) clergy of Rome elected one of their number, Jorge Mario Cardinal Bergoglio, as Bishop of Rome. By virtue of this election, Cardinal Bergoglio also assumed the titles of: Vicar of Jesus Christ, Successor of the Prince of the Apostles, Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church, Primate of Italy, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Province, Sovereign of the Vatican City State, and my personal favorite, Servant of the Servants of God.
In other words, the Pope.
Asked by what name he would be called, he chose that of Francis.
It would behoove many of the faithful, to reflect upon a piece written fourteen years ago tomorrow, by the late Joseph Sobran, who passed into eternity in September of 2010.
