TYRANNY! The Cloward-Piven Endgame Is Upon Us
Editor’s Note: This piece from Greg W Howard’s archives shows his ability to perceive what is about to happen in the political/financial arena.
In our language at ACBlog, pretty darn prophetic.

I receive many blank stares when I bring up the Cloward-Piven strategy in polite conversation. So, I thought it was high time to explain the strategy in basic terms and then to illustrate how it has become the central tool of the government in its efforts to “fundamentally transform” the United States of America into a completely socialist nation.
Inspired by the 1965 Watts riots in Los Angeles, the Cloward-Piven strategy was proposed in 1966 by Columbia University political scientists Richard Andrew Cloward and Frances Fox Piven as a plan to bankrupt the welfare system and produce radical change. The central idea is to get as many people as possible dependent on the government welfare system, overloading it, and leading to outbreaks of violence when those dependent on the government no longer can receive benefits. These riots would be then used as a means to expand government power and to usher in a new era of complete government control over the citizenry. For a more complete history and background, please go to www.cloward-piven.com.
We are now familiar with the line “never let a good crisis go to waste.” This administration has used the word “crisis” more than any other in my memory. (Watch video) To listen to them, there is not a single area of our life as a nation that is not in crisis. It is true we have a multitude of problems, but in each and every case, the problem was created by the government and escalated to crisis level either by perception or actions to deepen the problem, leading to a demand by the public that the government “just do something.”
Let’s look at some areas in which the government through policy and legislation has placed us at the doorstep of calamity and deliberately reduced our ability to let free market forces control the issues, rather than relying on the government for every solution.
Welfare and Social Policy
Right now, our nation is being bankrupted by social programs. All this talk about earmarks is worthy in terms of showing how ridiculous government spending can be, but the real culprit for our mounting debt and deficits is social programs. According to NCPA latest figures, the numbers just on Social Security and Medicare are astounding, about $107 trillion in today’s dollars in unfunded liabilities. Unfunded liabilities are obligations for which no corresponding revenue or asset exists. In fact, in the next few years, the number of workers for each retiree will be as little as two workers for each retiree. The trust funds have been drained, and payments are being largely funded with current payroll tax receipts. This is a Ponzi scheme the likes the world has never seen. And like all Ponzi schemes, it will collapse when the pyramid becomes top heavy as it has already.
According to Reuter’s there are 33.8 million Americans on welfare as of April, 2009. This is 11.3 percent of the population. As of December, 2009, 39 million were receiving food stamps, the highest percentage of population and raw number ever recorded. Add to this the 9.7 percent of the population receiving unemployment benefits, and you now have a recipe for disaster in our social programs. They have become completely unsustainable.
And, if you add the real rate of unemployment of 16.8 percent to the percentage of Americans on welfare and not even trying to find work, you have 28.1 percent of the population being supported by the rest of the population. This number is higher than the highest ever recorded unemployment rate in this nation which was 24.9 percent in 1933. This was before all the social programs that we now know.
Left to their own devices, social and welfare programs will bankrupt this nation completely, setting in motion the final state of anarchy under the Cloward-Piven strategy, enabling the government to take full control. However, this is not going to occur fast enough for those seeking to remake this nation. So, they have expanded their reach to other areas to set us in an even more precarious situation.
Energy is the central backbone of our economy. Without it, nothing operates, not our cars, our homes, our businesses, our manufacturing, and even our schools and hospitals. Nothing. Increasingly, we have been deliberately placed in a dependent posture when it comes to our energy needs. For example, right now, under the states of Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado, there is an estimated 2 trillion barrels of oil in shale reserves. If we only got half of it extracted, it would still be three times the proven reserves of Saudi Arabia. The Bakken Oil Formation under Montana, North Dakota and extending into Canada has easily 10 times the reserves of the Alaska North Slope. We have massive Alaskan reserves and offshore reserves off the coast of California and in the Gulf of Mexico that have remained untapped. And we have not mentioned huge coal and natural gas reserves.
This nation has the reserves and now the technology to be energy independent. However, the goal of our government is to keep us dependent on energy from foreign sources, leading to the largest transfer of wealth from one nation to others ever known to man. At every turn, using environmental or other excuses, exploration and exploitation of these resources is blocked by the federal government. In fact, the federal government owns 60 percent of the land in Utah, thereby completely putting those reserves off limits. In the Gulf of Mexico, China is working to extract oil reserves in our own backyard, while we as Americans can only watch and wonder why our wealth is being allowed to be literally taken right out from under us.
Why this is being done to us is simple. By controlling energy and keeping us dependent upon other nations for our energy needs, they can keep us under control and engineer a crisis anytime they need one. Remember just a couple years ago when oil spiked to over $150 a barrel, leading to high gas prices and the beginning of the slide into this depression? They can do this to us any time they want to. We are completely at their mercy.
Global Climate Policy
Though now nearly completely debunked based on the revelations of the fraud that went into the ginning up of the man-made global warming crisis, there are die-hard adherents in all levels of academia and government who still continue to use this fraud as a means to take more governmental control over our lives. Cap and Trade legislation is not dead. It merely slumbers, waiting to be called forth by its masters to further control every aspect of our lives and greatly increase our energy costs. The insane quest for unproven ”green technology” in the stimulus plan has billions of our dollars being shipped overseas right now. By Obama’s own admission, home energy costs would necessarily skyrocket, further eroding the spending power, and consequently the control over personal financial freedom.
