Happy Saint Joseph’s Day from AlwaysCatholic

The Silent Saint
by @AncientSoul

On March 19th, the anniversary of the debut of this blog, we remember St. Joseph. I think St. Joseph is one of the most forgotten of all Saints, yet … which of the other Saints were ever closer to our dear Lord? I have to stop and stand in awe of this faithful servant of God. Is he quoted in the Bible frequently? No. Does he have the fanfare and notoriety that many other Saints have? Not so much.

Let’s stop a moment and really consider his role in redemption. One can hardly focus on St. Joseph without first looking at our Blessed Mother. Here we find a young girl not barely ‘sweet sixteen’ who is told something quite unbelievable to the average person, namely that she would conceive the Son of God in a miraculous way and remain a virgin. We all know this, but I think often many take it for granted that the times in which she lived were precarious at best. An unmarried woman that found herself pregnant would soon feel the biting sting of stones tearing and bruising her flesh and breaking her bones. Still, she trusted and accepted according to the Perfect Will of God without hesitation!

Then we have to look towards Joseph. An older man .. a widower who was to marry this young girl, yet what to do when he learns that she is with child? He knew full well what would be her fate if he publicly declared this. His kind and protective nature decided to just divorce her quietly and not cause her undue pain and scandal. We all know that God sent the angel to him in a dream to explain the situation and Joseph, trusting God as Mary did, believed and took her for his wife.

I would imagine they were both a little nervous about it all … wondering how this could be .. what would happen next … how would it all turn out?? I can only imagine the prayerful lives of faith that they led allowing them to trust to that extent and rely on God for the very next step all along the way. We all know the stories from our childhood, but have we ever stopped to really think what it all must have been like? Fleeing into Egypt .. fleeing from Herod … losing Jesus as a young Boy and finding Him in the Temple amidst the elders, questioning and being questioned. St. Joseph taught the God-Man his carpentry trade. He and Mary played with Him, watched Him grow, comforted Him when He fell and taught Him how to pray!

So little is written of St. Joseph in Scripture .. neither Joseph or Mary together, have very many words recorded. But are there any more significant people in Scripture than the Mother and Foster-Father of the Christ Child? They don’t say much, but they sure lead by example! St. Joseph was a faithful servant while on earth, chosen by the Holy Trinity to be a wonderful Foster-Father to Jesus and a faithful and protective virginal husband to Mary.
As the head of the Holy Family, he is also the Patron of the Catholic Church. He is also the Patron Saint of families and workers as well. We need to call on him for his protection, guidance and support in all things.

One of St. Joseph’s most famous titles is Patron of a Happy Death. Why? How could death not be happy if one was to die in the arms of Jesus and Mary? We must never forget his suffering either. He truly is our Friend in Sufferings with all the fear, anxiety and panic he must have gone through in his diligent care of his beloved Family! Let us always turn to our foster father St. Joseph, asking him to present our petitions to our dear Lord and our Blessed Mother with the same tenderness and concern in which he protected them while on earth. Let our prayer be always to strive to embrace the perfect Will of God in all things with a joyful and trusting heart as St. Joseph shows us by his shining example.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph .. please pray for us!

The Christmas Birds via @AncientSoul

24 December 2016

was a particularly cold and blustery Christmas Eve this year ….. Carol
bundled up the children for Midnight Mass, and tried one last time to
encourage Jim to join them. Now, Jim was a kindly man; a good father a
loving husband … in fact, there was nothing anyone could say at all
against this upstanding civic leader!

Jim’s only
‘deficit’ (if you could call it that), was that
he chose not to go to Church ……………………….. ever.
It wasn’t that he didn’t believe in God.. it was simply that he felt ‘uncomfortable’
with structured religious activities of any sort, hence he avoided
them as much as possible.
At any rate, Carol and the children had left and Jim settled down in front
of a nice roaring fire with his slippers, the newspaper and a cup of his
favorite raspberry hot chocolate. This was HIS time to relax, with most
of the hustle bustle of the season behind him now, he relished the thought
to be alone and kick back!

He placed
his “reading” glasses auspiciously at the end of his nose and began to
peruse the newspaper. “THUMP”… “THUMP” he heard against the front of
the house. “hmmmmm, must be some kids having one last snowball battle
before Mass” he thought to himself with a grin, remembering his own

Again he
heard: “THUMP”…”THUMP”…. “THUMP”, but this time against the glass
of the new bow window just installed this past fall! He figured he’d better
stick his head out the door and have a chat with the kids before things
got out of hand. When he turned on the front light and looked out the
door there was noone in sight at all. Convinced that he needed MORE
rest and relaxation than he thought, he returned to his paper, his fire
and his (now) luke-warm raspberry hot chocolate.

No sooner
did he sit down, then once again, the “THUMPING” started; but this time
it was harder and more frequent. Determined to confront whoever was playing
games with him and robbing him of his solitude, he bundled himself up,
went out the back door and around the house to ‘catch ’em in the act’!!

As he made
his way around the house in the blustering wind, and snow storm, he marveled
as he recalled how, in his youth, he was impervious to such trivialities!

He rounded
the west corner of the house and could see plainly the front landing and
the bow window that he was attempting to protect. His plan of attack worked!
There were the villains right there in plain sight!! Much to his surprise
however, it was not a snowball fight at all … it was a group of cold,
frantic birds.

he heard, was their feeble attempt to find some shelter from the biting
storm that raged wildly. Jim’s heart melted at this pitiful sight!! He
ran to the barn, and put on the light, hoping that they would notice and
take shelter in there for the night ….. but HOW to get them IN
there? He ran in the house, grabbed a loaf of bread and made a trail of
crumbs from the front door to the barn, but – to no avail. He turned off
the front door light and paraded back and forth from there to the barn
with a flashlight, hoping the birds would follow him, but his strange
presence only served to frighten them and add to their misfortune.

in his frustration, and knowing that if he didn’t do SOMETHING to save
, they would surely DIE … he got a broom and attempted to SHOO
them into the barn. Unfortunately, this caused more havoc than the other
attempts, and left Jim standing there feeling completely helpless.

As he was
mulling over his feeble attempts and trying to find a way to make the
birds UNDERSTAND that he was trying to help them and bring them
to safety, he realized that whatever he did only served to frighten them.
He thought: “If I could only just become ONE OF THEM, then they
wouldn’t be afraid of me
, and I could make them understand that
I was only trying to ……… trying to ………. “

At that
very moment the Church bells rang, Jim realized that this was exactly
what Jesus had done for humankind. He became ONE OF US so
He could SHOW US THE WAY to salvation (“safety”). Jim fell to knees
in adoration of that Little Babe in the Manger and thanked God for the
Precious Gift of His SON on the first Christmas, so very
long ago!!

(He also started going to Church with the family
on a regular basis! )

not the
end …. it’s just ……….. the BEGINNING :-)

May the New Year be especially kind to US ALL!

Father, may Your Will be done on earth as it is in heaven! Please
bless and protect our land, those we hold dear, those persecuted,
especially those suffering for You in the Middle East and other non
Christian nations. Comfort the afflicted and those that feel unloved
and neglected, particularly the lonely and abandoned young and old
ones. Abba, please give to the dying this day, a contrite heart and
the grace to at least beg Your Mercy with their last conscious thought
or dying breath. May all those who can’t speak for themselves, particularly
the unborn, have caregivers that love You and keep Your commandments,
that Your Perfect Will be done in all things. May jobs and homes be
found for those that are needy. May families grow in unity and love
rather than distance and hatred. More than anything, please give us
a heart and the grace to detach from the things that keep us from
closer union with You so that we may strive to focus on You and heaven
as we wait in joyful hope for You to return to make all things right.

Sweetest and most Glorious
Triune God, read our hearts and know that we adore you. Increase our
Faith, show us how to love You more perfectly, know You better and
trust and serve You always in all things. Keep us always in Your Perfect
Will and protect us from the evil ones that seek to lead us to perdition.
All good things come from You oh God Most High. We give You thanks
for everything we have ever received since the moment of our conception;
particularly our parents, family members, friends and those we hold
dear along with all placed in our path along the way, for our precious
Faith, life, love, hope and all that we can become for each other
by Your grace.

need to beg the Holy Spirit to engulf the minds and hearts of all
mankind to be open to the Truth, Love,
Mercy and Goodness of Christ our Lord, Savior and Triune God!
When you pray … do not forget your friends and loved ones; both
here on earth and those that have passed on.
May the Good Lord shower His most Choice Blessings on those that love
Him and
open the hearts and minds of those that are

blind and deaf.
May He have mercy on us all!

Keep the wicks
trimmed and the oil lamps full!

for Christmas or anytime!!

The Power of Prayer for Healing

posted by @AncientSoul (Mary Wellman) at her blog,
Battlebeads Blog

Hearing the words suffering and healing, we often think of people who are sick and needed to be healed through prayers and medical assistance. But let us also remember that all people experience suffering though it is not through grave sickness. Emotional and psychological problems can be considered as suffering.

Pope John Paul II’s constant attention to the poor is one of the characteristics of his pontificate. In his 1984 apostolic letter “Salvifici Doloris” he addressed the Christian meaning of human suffering.

February 11 is the Feast day of OUR LADY of LOURDES, the late Pope John Paul II who is very much devoted to Blessed Mother believes in the intercession of Mary. In line with this in 1992, the Holy Father instituted the World Day of the Sick, to be observed every year on Feb. 11, liturgical memorial of the Virgin of Lourdes. In 1993 he established the Pontifical Council for Health Care Workers.

Novena Prayer for Healing START: 2/2/13

(pray for 9 consecutive days; different intention every day)

Prayer for Healing:

God, like a watchful Shepherd, You care for us. You make the earth yield healing herbs and medicines and give us the knowledge to learn their power. Your creative love continues through the healing hands of doctors, pharmacists, and nurses, and the healing counsel of priests, ministers, and friends.
Bless me, and all who suffer. Our afflictions become a cross that burdens us with fear and uncertainty. Cast out our fear and revive our faith. Give us strength that we may be filled with hope. Let the Holy Spirit come to our aid that we might live each day in the joy for which You fashioned us.
I pray for healing in body, soul, and spirit that I may be Your servant in this world and enjoy the fullness of Your Presence in the life to come. I make this prayer humbly, knowing I cannot restrict or direct Your saving grace. I give joyful thanks for Your compassion wherever I may find it.
I ask all this in the Name of the Lord Jesus Who intercedes before You on my behalf. Amen.

Novena Intentions:

Day 1 : That all who are sick may experience the healing touch of the Lord Jesus.

I Disagree With Fr. Corapi! Or A Cry For Help? via BattleBeadsBlog

5 December 2010

Sometimes the comments in Courageous Priest gets are gut wrenching. When someone honestly shares their heart breaking story, it can be very emotional and yet a grace filled moment. Let me introduce you to Bobby. After you read this, can you please do me a little favor by helping out Bobby with my request at the end of the post?
Bobby left them a comment. One full of sorrow. He questions the comments in Father Corapi’s Christmas message to us. To refresh you here is the post. Bobby’s comment centered around this Fr. Corapi message:

This year approach Christmas as you would approach the Christ Child himself ? with reverence and with thanksgiving. Allow nothing to rob your joy at this precious time. Sadness has no place in reality, true reality, for the Word has become flesh and dwelt among us. Humanity and divinity have been joined in Jesus, now come to us as an infant. In the cold winter of human hearts there is often no room at the Inn for the Holy Family. Make room in the warmth of your heart for the infant King the Lord of Lords and King of Kings.

Bobby’s comment:

In most cases, I will agree with Father Corapi. But I keep going back to “Reality demands that at Christmas we will to be happy, after all “A Child has been born to us!”” Christ was born, and a Child has been born to us. Over two months ago my wife and I’s firstborn died during childbirth very suddenly and unexpectantly. In our case, a child was born to us, but it was not to last.
We are joyful for Christ and His gift of salvation, but heartbreak and sadness is still prevalent. I don’t think my wife chooses to be sad, and despite her best efforts and staying close to the sacraments, she doesn’t cry at night because she is happy, but rather it’s because she is sad, and completely heartbroken. I am doing a little better than her, but I am not exactly happy either, and there isn’t a day or moment that goes by that I don’t think about how Mary Catherine will not be with us this Christmas.
Some people should be happier during this time, but in reality, suffering still occurs, and happiness sometimes is not possible. To say that sadness has no place in Christmas or any other time is taking a wide brush to paint something that isn’t reality.

Here is my simple request:

Can you PLEASE leave Bobby an encouraging comment?

* Maybe the voice of hope?
* How about a comment of something related that has happened to you and the results God has given you?
* Can you share in more detail what Fr. Corapi is teaching us?

But most of all . . .

PLEASE GO TO BATTLEBEADSBLOG NOW…and then honor Mary’s request, please. It will only take a mere moment of your time

Why do Muslims only Live on ONE WAY STREETS??

by AncientSoul

Before I say anything .. have a look at a Muslim DANCING on High Altar at Florence Cathedral!
What do you think would happen if a Christian did something similar at a Mosque?

For some time now, I have noticed how one sided things appear from the Muslim world’s point of view. Couple things I can remember off the top of my head … I’m sure you can remember many more and that a search on Google will produce even more yet.

What about the Dutch cartoonist that had to practically go into hiding regarding a political cartoon about Mohammad? Then there’s the time they were ready to string up the Pope because he quoted a 14th century emperor who simply stated the truth about how violent they were. It’s ok for them to shoot rockets at Israel, but when Israel retaliates it’s wrong? How DARE Israel attempt to protect itself or stop the attacks on their citizens? They disperse themselves into ALL other countries .. why? Cuz they wanna make NICE? There is an agenda folks. He who has eyes, let them SEE!

I myself, and I venture to bet most of us, would not take up residency in another country and then demand that country to follow the codes and laws of the USA. We would not demand special rights so we could live as we did in our own country THAT WE JUST LEFT. If it’s that important to them, why did they leave in the first place? If that’s how they want to live, fine .. let them live like that in their OWN COUNTRY. But they want to force THEIR laws on us .. no, not just US … the WHOLE WORLD. They will not rest till the Islamic flag flies everywhere.

They say they are a peaceful nation. What they don’t say is that even the Koran says you will find contradictory statements in this book. When you do, you are to follow the most recently dated to be correct. Problem with this is that all the PEACEFUL stuff in the Koran was in the beginning of the book. The VIOLENT TAKEOVER POLICY comes later, is more recent and therefore is today’s law of the land.

We have all heard of the severe old testament type punishments for crimes … cutting off hands for stealing and certainly the stoning of adulterers, but are folks really aware that ANYONE that doesn’t believe as they do is an INFIDEL and by THEIR LAW (which they want IMPOSED IN THE USA AND EVERYWHERE ELSE) it states that all infidels must die unless they convert to Islam.

Happy Birthday BattleBeads!!

29 July 2010

by Ancient Soul

A year ago today, I sold the first BattleBeads Rosary. :) Hard to believe it’s a year later and I’m still getting special requests. Just got one today in fact regarding a 6 decade Brigittine Rosary that I’ll be making shortly. I always very much like to design something new or something uniquely custom … really looking forward to it! :)
I was going to let this anniversary go by, but decided not to after a dream I had last night that was completely unrelated to making rosaries and an email I just received from someone that found me after prayer to our Lady. I believe the dream was actually an answer to a petition that I’ve been praying about for a few months now. I had been asking to be led more deeply into our Lord’s Passion and to understand more and love Him more perfectly.
Upon retiring last night, I was thinking how FULL of grace Mary was and how at such a young age, she was able to accept such monumental tasks that were wrought with the possibility of dire consequences. I thought too about how she had to endure the swords piercing her Immaculate Heart that Simeon spoke of. I thought of her horror and anguish at learning Jesus had been arrested. I was brought to a place where I could barely watch as He was horrifically mauled, maltreated, humiliated and in torturous pain as He was being mocked carrying His Cross. How could Mary have stood this? Yes … grace, I know … but she was fully human! Watching this … standing at the foot of the Cross after watching them drive the nails into Him … hearing His WORDS to the Father, her and John … holding His Lifeless Precious Body in her arms when they took Him down and then the finality of placing Him in the tomb. I was just in awe … totally and literally. I fell asleep praying.

So, now my dream. Short .. but just as profound. Please read on at Blog

Editor’s Note: This post is so very dear to my heart. Mary (@Ancientsoul on Twitter) is the website designer at as well as a contributor. We came together because of Twitter and because of her magnificent Rosaries. I humbly ask my followers to go to to see what I consider the most artistic Rosaries I have ever owned. The Rosaries are so beautiful to pray on that nothing less is acceptable for the Queen of Heaven. God Love you, Mary!! As ever, Sofia
