St Joseph Novena – Day Five- for You and for Sofia!

We are praying our Novena to Saint Joseph (March 10-18) for all our readers. AlwaysCatholic.com was founded on the Feast of St. Joseph and every year (this is our fourth anniversary) we publish a Saint Joseph Novena in honor of our followers.

This year I am asking you to pray this Novena for Sofia, my mom. She is now confined to a wheelchair but that’s hopefully temporary in nature as we pray she will be able to get her knee replacements surgery soon. (She needs both replaced. Warning to women…don’t overexercise)

Here’s the problem: Her chair is broken and unusable. She is confined to bed and she is getting sicker everyday. The chair has a warranty but the company where the chair was purchased has been shut down by the Justice Department without any concern for the current customers who have chairs with warranties and are on Medicare.

It has been months and to no avail trying to get the company who can fix it to do the job. Medicare has already said they will pay and the company says after many calls and a congressman requesting help that they promise (again and again ) to send out someone to fix it.

Please pray that Sofia gets the chair fixed before it’s too late. She cannot walk at this point and has no way to be mobile. The price of fixing it is too high so we must rely on Medicare and the warranty. She is not complaining at all and I feel helpless other than to care for her. I am watching her get worse everyday physically.

Please consider adding this request for her to Saint Joseph along with your Novena requests. Thank you.

God love you (as Sofia says)

Novena to Saint Joseph

StJosephO St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the Throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires. O St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession and obtain for me from your Divine Son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, Our Lord; so that, having engaged here below your Heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of fathers. O St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms. I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine Head for me, and ask Him to return the Kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls, pray for us. Amen.

Say for nine consecutive mornings for anything you may desire. It has seldom been known to fail.

This prayer was found in the fiftieth year of Our Lord Jesus Christ. In 1505, it was sent by the Pope to Emperor Charles when he was going into battle.

Whosoever reads this prayer or hears it or carries it, will never die a sudden death, nor be drowned, nor will poison take effect on them. They will not fall into the hands of the enemy nor be burned in any fire, nor will they be defeated in battle.

Make this prayer known everywhere.

Imprimatur:
Most Rev. George W. Ahr
Bishop of Trenton

(June 23, 1904—May 5, 1993)

Ironically this Bishop who put his Imprimatur on this prayer (Over 1900 years old) was the Bishop who confirmed Sofia!

It seems so providential that we would meet here in Rome for this extraordinarily significant event during Lent.

These forty days are a sacred occasion of recalling the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus – the Paschal Mystery – uniting ourselves to the death of Jesus by dying to sin, through prayer, sacrifice, and acts of charity, so that we might rise with Him to life at Easter.

Sure enough, the Church is experiencing death, as we observe the passing of a beloved Pontiff, and await the rebirth that comes with the election of a new one.

And these days of transition allow us as the Church to die to sin, corruption, scandal, and evil, even in the members of the Church – including her leaders – so that the Church can then rise to renewed life.

It also seems providential that we undergo this passing of one Pope and the rising up of a new one during March, classically devoted to St. Joseph (whose feast day is March 19th).

St. Joseph, a man of silence – and we need quiet reflection as the College of Cardinals and members of the Church;

St. Joseph, a man who dealt with emergencies – – think of his virgin wife’s “untimely,” embarrassing pregnancy; the birth of Jesus in exile, in a stable; the flight to Egypt to escape a murdering tyrant, the three-day loss of his boy – – with calmness, trust in God, and responsibility. What an example he is as we see so many “emergencies” in the Church and the world today!

St. Joseph, ever attentive to God’s will, placing Jesus and Mary at the heart of his life, reliable in his duties to care and protect his virgin wife and adopted son; a working-man who took pride in his profession as a carpenter.

No wonder we call him the Patron of the Church Universal. Wouldn’t it be great to have a new Pope by his feast day?

I’m going to begin a novena to him on March 11, nine days of prayer in preparation for his feast day (two days after St. Patrick’s Day), asking him and his virgin-wife to look after the Church, and get us an inspired new Successor of St. Peter. Will you join me?

Novena Prayer to Saint Joseph – Day Nine

Saint Joseph, you are the faithful protector and intercessor of all who love and venerate you. I have special confidence in you. You are powerful with God and will never abandon your faithful servants. I humbly invoke you and commend myself, with all who are dear to me, to your intercession. By the love you have for Jesus and Mary, do not abandon me during life, and assist me at the hour of my death.

Glorious Saint Joseph, spouse of the Immaculate Virgin, Foster-father of Jesus Christ, obtain for me a pure, humble, and charitable mind, and perfect resignation to the Divine Will. Be my guide, my father, and my model through life that I may merit to die as you did in the arms of Jesus and Mary.

Loving Saint Joseph, faithful follower of Jesus Christ, I raise my heart to you to implore your powerful intercession in obtaining from the Heart of Jesus all the graces necessary for my spiritual and temporal welfare, particularly the grace of a happy death, and the special grace I now implore: (Mention your request). Guardian of the Word Incarnate, I am confident that your prayers on my behalf will be graciously heard before the throne of God.

Novena Prayer to Saint Joseph – Day Four
